Karate
Richard began Karate training at our Shotokan Karate-Do Center in 2001 and achieved Shodan from Sensei Murakami in 2009.
Richard assists in children’s karate classes at our Dojo, particularly at the beginner and novice level, and is responsible for administration and finance.
He says that, “This work is a particularly rewarding activity as I have seen hundreds of children gradually improve, and some emerge as great karate people.”
As dojo “President”, Richard helps organize special events such as the annual guest workshops and youth tournaments.
Richard is also a participant in the SeiDoRyu JKA Dojo in Baden-bei-Wien, Austria, under Senseis Österreicher and Kolbe.
Life
Richard grew up in Canada and studied at university, first Physiology and Biochemistry, and later Finance and Computing.
During a period as Technical Director of a British-based management planning and management consultancy, he managed assignments in Europe, North Africa, and Middle East.
Currently, Richard is Managing Director of SkiEurope, the group division of Alpine Adventures, which specializes in winter vacation travel from North America to Europe.
In addition to karate, Richard is yoga instructor, certified under Lex Gillan of the Yoga Institute in the Texas Medical Center.
For many years, Richard has been active at Trotter Family YMCA, as a long-term Board member, Chair of the 2009 Partners Campaign, member and chair of the Finance Committee, and member of the Image, Communications, and Membership Committee.
Together with his wife Dorothea, Richard is establishing a home in her family village of Pfaffstätten, Austria, which is just south of Vienna.
